Wednesdays meeting was short and sweet. A few motions pushed through so we could get to one in particular, and that was The Gary Allen Guide Dog Golf Tournament. It is on July 21st and Local 1957 is proud to say WE donated and sponsored one of the 18 holes. As far as negotiations go, there is still no response from management. So all there is left to do is hold them accountable. Our next scheduled negoiation meeting is scheduled for late July. Please come to the next union meeting for more details. The next one will be August 9th at 6:30pm.

EVENT:  Local Lodge 1930 will be having a member and family barbecue Saturday August 5th : FROM 11am TO 3:30pm @ Recreation Park Bandshell 4900 E. 7th Street, Long Beach, CA. There will be crafts, family games, music, BBQ buffet, jumpers and much more!

EVENT:  Labor 411 – The Los Angeles Federation of Labor and the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrate union night @ Dodger Stadium Friday August 11 @ 7:10pm. L.A. vs. S.D. For further information on tickets please contact any of the union board members for further details.

Another quorum assembled at the hour of 6:43pm in GOD’S country of Norwalk California!  Ok union brothers and sisters, this is what went down…  After a short recap of last months meeting, questions of how negotiations were coming along came right out of the box. Unfortunately since we are in the 1st inning of this negotiation series, there wasn’t that much to report. What we can say is that more than 10 items were proposed and that is just the 1st portion of our package.  The meeting between the two sides will take place later this month, so please make the July union meeting to receive some more insight of how the process is unfolding.

There was some discussion of the last 4 budget meetings between administration and the city council.  Entertaining to say the least, its apparent that administration is pulling for a 2 year budget while it seems from our union sidelines that the city council is leaning for a 1 year budget instead.  Only time will tell how this key decision will turn out as the last budget meeting started at 6pm and went well passed 11, a true marathon indeed!!!

So to wrap up, a concern for our correspondence will soon be making the trip from Long Beach, (where our district lodge is) to a little bit closer to home in yes, you guessed it, ….GOD’S country.  Also, the canned food drive is still getting traction so keep your ear to the ground for that. In addition to this drive lets collaborate on ideas and thoughts that will put a face to our union.  Any type of community help, give back, or charitable outreach, to let Norwalk know we are the community, will help us tremendously.  So please if you have any ideas, we are in the business of hearing them out.  Come to the next union meeting if you can so we can hear these ideas.  Some ideas that have been proposed is a golf tournament, community clean up, read to kids at library, or even  partake in the habitat for humanity program.  The next union meeting will be on JULY 12th 2017 WEDNESDAY at 6:30PM.  Please come to ASK questions, get INFORMED, because that is true POWER.

Wednesdays meeting got underway at 6:40PM, after the pledge, roll call, and abbreviated treasury report, we quickly went into new and old business. The old was based upon the local lodges 41 and 313 that hail from St. Louis, Missouri. It dealed with a strike they were going through.  As far as the new business goes, talk of a can food drive for the less fortunate is in its infant stages, so we will keep you posted on that. In addition to something new, the city of Norwalk has a new H.R. Director by the name of Kathy Thompson. Now that being said, negations have started and Dave gave us a brief summary of the ground rule process and what is yet to come. Next negotiations will continue in late June. We encourage you to come to city council meetings that are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month and of course our local lodge meetings that are held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month. So come to a meeting to ASK, get INFORMED, because that’s POWER!
